Who We Are
The Asbury Park Professional Firefighters proudly serve and protect a city that is constantly growing, evolving, and demanding more from its emergency services. From a year-round population of over 15,000 residents to tens of thousands of visitors during peak seasons and major events, our firefighters are on the front lines every day, ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
Our department handles thousands of emergencies annually, placing constant demand on on-duty crews. Many of these calls require immediate medical response, often pulling firefighters away from fire suppression, rescue operations, and hazard mitigation. That reality makes one thing clear: staffing matters.
Firefighting is a team effort that depends on having enough personnel on scene to operate safely and effectively. Tasks like search and rescue, fire attack, ventilation, and rapid intervention must happen at the same time, not one after another. When staffing is limited, those critical functions are delayed, increasing risk to both firefighters and the public.
Asbury Park continues to see significant residential and commercial growth, including multi-family housing and large-scale developments. With that growth comes increased risk, increased call volume, and greater demand for emergency services. Our firefighters are expected to meet those challenges every day with professionalism, skill, and dedication, but they need the resources to do it safely.
In addition to emergency response, our members are deeply committed to the community we serve. We provide fire prevention education, support local events, and take part in outreach efforts that strengthen the connection between the fire department and the residents we protect.
